Growing Pains

Some periods of our growth are so confusing that we don’t even recognize that growth is happening. We may feel hostile or angry or weepy and hysterical, or we may feel depressed. It would never occur to us, unless we stumbled on a book or a person who explained to us, that we are in fact in the process of change,of actually becoming larger, spiritually, than we were before. Whenever we grow, we tend to feel it, as a young seed must feel the weight and inertia of the earth as it seeks to break out of its shell on its way to becoming a plant. Often the feeling is anything but pleasant. But what is most unpleasant is the not knowing what is happening… Those long periods when something inside ourselves seems to be waiting, holding its breath, unsure about what the next step should be, eventually become the periods we wait for, for it is in those periods that we realize that we are being prepared for the next phase of our life and that, in all probability, a new level of the personality is about to be revealed.”  — Alice Walker

Sebastian

Never thought I have my own kitty.
From working all day Monday through Friday 8 till past 5, I like to have some company when I return home. A pet of my own. One I can take care of and at the same time teach me some responsibility. He's doing a swell job.

Hair Update It's growing. Saw some new growth this round and I'm excited to see some more results the end of this month.

Keeping Calm and Embracing my natural hair !!

One of the hardest things I have struggled with was to walk out my house with out blow drying and/or straightening my hair. Finally at the age of 24 (now) I threw that fear away. And to my surprise..........I love it. I feel good, I feel light, I feel confident. Considering I do live in a almost 90% Caucasian town (not bad at all) I will receive some questions from my friends.

"did you cut your hair" ?
"wow is that real" ?

To my surprise my customers loved my hair, my friends told me they actually prefer my natural hair over my pressed/blow dried hair. I can't believe it. Considering how hard this was for me. All I had to do was be myself. I read this quote recently that says "black girls hair problem is that they think their hair is a problem". That hits home hard. Why did I ever find it a problem ? I shouldn't be ashamed of what I was born with. It's kinky, tight, super curly, feels good and light and I will wear this with a proud force.
